time's up

figuring out who should buy your business

The Perfect Average Day

When my day follows this pattern, I consider it pretty close to perfect:

5:00 Wake without yawning…
5:05 Stretch without pain…
5:10 Wonder who’s aboard that far-off sounding train – wait, not a poem!
5:15 Read 15 – 20 pages of a business book, hopefully retaining even 20% of it.
6:00 50+ minutes on the treadmill with CNBC’s “The Profit” (aka, Best Show Ever!) on the DVR.
7:00 Hot shower during which I remember to be thankful for things like hot showers.
7:30 Arrive at office in time for “Right Now” on KISS.
7:50 Deeply satisfied by “Right Now,” get focused… you know, right now!
8:00 First cup o’ coffee, focus seeming achievable.
8:10 Work on client file, return emails, unsubscribe from an email list that has proven meaningless.
8:40 Entertainment Update from my boy Billy Costa, who manages to avoid all things Kanye.
9:00 Make three phone calls, not needing to dial “at the tone the time will be…” to get warmed up.
9:15 Make a connection or referral for someone.
9:20 Try five minutes of mindfulness, quieting the clatter of the mind.
9:20:43 Wait, what?
9:30 Crunchy Nature Valley granola bar, and I’m having none of this “now easier to chew” nonsense.
10:00 Client or referral partner meeting at office.
11:00 Productive conference call with client and buyer prospect(s); no one drops and has to redial.
11:55 Chocolate milk, the great reward for a productive morning.
12:00 Lunch at desk; check box office receipts on ew.com (fight me – it’s interesting, okay?!).
12:08 Start catching up on all that damned water we’re supposed to be guzzling.
1:00 Webinar or some sort of ongoing learning thingy; stand/pace during it ‘cuz I sit too much.
1:30 Check snail mail, find check therein, deposit with handy virtual picture-taking banking thingy.
1:32 Move funds into Hamilton Tix Account (goal: family to affor- er, see sometime this decade).
2:00 Prospective client meeting, mind not wandering at all, one-call close – click boom!
3:00 Run errand, playing “same speed” which, for whatever reason, freaks other drivers out.
3:20 Run into someone I’ve seen recently; they somehow resist saying, “Hey, long time no see!”
3:30 Fruit: nature’s candy.
4:00 Check the closing bell, believing even a 2% drop in the market is nothing to fret over… right?
4:02 Finish a client file, hopeful they will react well to the results (not always pretty).
5:00 Speak with a genuine, respectful, and qualified buyer prospect, upholding my standards.
5:20 Receive a referral, the lifeblood of the business.
5:25 Celebrate by cranking one song from “Hamilton.”
5:30 Okay, one more. “I Know Him” just. will. not. get. old.
5:31:37 Work on blog.
5:50 Handwritten note to someone who’s helped me out recently.
6:00 Make a few new LinkedIn connections.
6:05 Crank through emails, leaving no more than five in the ol’ inbox.
6:30 Head home with Scott Pelley on WBZ.
7:00 Pig out – after all, I’ve earned it on this perfect average day. 🙂
